Time for me to start decluttering my master bedroom. Go to and use today, safe.
I'll be decluttering clothing and furniture as we are upgrading our entire bed room. I'm starting with my dresser. it was to the point where I didn't want to fold my clothes to put them away since the drawers were so packed.
Decluttering this space has actually drastically changed the method I'm able to quickly fold clothes and put them away. I understand exactly what I have and do not have. Next up is my closet and I CAN NOT WAIT!

#decluttering.
After watching your first declutter video with the professional, I hired one local to me. I paid for 32 hours. It was the absolute best thing I have ever spent money on. We did my entire house in 28 hours, so for the last 4 hours we did the walk in attic. With her help, I did it. I donated so much stuff. I cannot believe how much I had stuffed into this house. For reference it’s about 3000 sq.ft. 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms. We went through every closet, drawer, cabinet etc… I put my hands on every single item in this house. I wish I could show before and after pics on here.
I had never thought about hiring someone to help me past feeling paralyzed every time I walked into a room. Everything has a home and a purpose. Thank you so much. It has helped my mental health so much.
Nice!!! Great job!!
Girl I feel for you!!!! Tackling that inventory is not for the weak and you did a good job. Maybe you can do a body double with someone like Dawn suggests. Watching people do the same thing helps me get task done fast. For my sanity, I need the inventory to be low. I love not having too much clothes and then when I don’t love it or wore the life out of it, I donate and start fresh. Clothing is replaceable, but I try to get less of better quality if I can so it can stretch. To help with making less decisions, I only wear black undergarments socks, shoes and bras because it never shows under my clothes and it always matches.
That’s a great start! You’ll find yourself going through them multiple times once you are more aware of what you use and don’t use.
I did my big first purge the first half of 2022. I have gotten ruthless with what I keep in my home. It has been the biggest blessing. Everything must fit now and be used often.
Professional organizer here… The less you have, is the less you have to manage !!
I go through my closet left to right and if I cannot make an outfit or I don’t love it or if I’m not reaching for it it goes… I’m also a minimalist so there is that
same here. I do this for a living. Great to see how much she got rid of, but in reality, she could have gotten rid of 50% more of what she kept. Even if you only do laundry once a week, that is only 7 t-shirts, 7 jammies etc. Hope she goes through them again and gets rid of more
The overwhelm comes from the decision process. It’s the memories tied into the clothing, the dreams you had for it, which comes along with the dreams and thoughts you have about yourself, which leads to decision paralysis…it’s so freeing when you’re finally done and the process becomes less time/energy consuming! You’re getting there mama!
I just clean out my closet today as I put up some winter clothes and got out spring items. I had to let go of ones that I had been saving for years! It feels great!
I feel you! I was overwhelmed with not having room for all of my apparel…I just knew the only way I could get organized was by getting rid of my older clothes. If I hadn’t worn it in a year it was out. Also, I have all of my t shirts, tops, and jackets hanging in my closet. That’s my rule from here on out. It is working great but I can’t be lazy after washing and drying a load. I need to get the items to their destination right away.
Also, my dresser is divided up by socks, bras, underwear, bathing suits, and tank tops/camis. One drawer for each. Then in my other dresser/stand I have all pants and pajamas. I should also mention that in my closet I have all my cold weather apparel hanging toward the back and my springish/summery stuff toward the front. It’s a must try!
I’m decluttering with you and taking those steps to be free from the stuff! The thing I find hardest for me is actually getting the stuff out once I declutter it. I found a bag of shoes I was supposed to donate in Dec 2021 still in my storage room. I get postcards offering to pick up donations for various organizations all the time and I have started actually using them! It has made the biggest difference for me! Scan the QR code, pick a date, leave the donations on my porch and done! I love it! Great job Jia!
Such a great feeling! Congrats whipping that dresser into shape and moving away from the laundry basket!
Looking forward to the closet. That’s my struggle.
Hi Jia,
The deep drawers are usually for bulky items like sweaters and sweats. Happy decluttering!
When you said Pax my heart sung! Best money I’ve ever spent. Once you get you closet done, you can measure how much hanging space you need and figure in your drawers. We ended up with 10 units, built a base and added crown. I have pullouts for jewelry and scarves. Gia it’s life changing!
Hiii great work! Check one off the list! Guess what I did today… cleaned out my closet!! It took over 4 hours but I was inspired by your work with your professional organizer. I’m a recent widow so that makes it all harder. My hubs tried arranging our clothes when we moved in a year but i wasn’t happy with it (lol) and then a bunch of other stuff got chunked in there until I couldn’t even walk inside. Needless to say I have the work of deciding what stuff of his to donate or keep. I kept y’all in mind doing the four hour block of work. Minimal breaks. Just take it all out, try not to overthink and sort it back in better. What a relief!!! All the moving boxes are out! I can stand in there with the door shut to get dressed if I want 🙂
Great job girl. It is so so hard to do something you just hate doing. But feels like a million bucks when it’s all finished a bond looks good to boot.
