Let's get a real sense of just how much more we are paying in the grocery store, particularly at Costco. Come shop with me as we compare costs from a grocery haul in February 2020.

Costco Grocery Prices: Then vs Now
Yes, bring on the videos. Girl, I live in Barbados. If you were to step foot in any Supermarket you would cry a yam. Your groceries are very cheap compared to ours. It might be a few cents over or under but a US dollar equals two Barbados dollars.
Great video! Really trying to reduce my food budget this year. Unless it’s a BOGO, Publix is totally out. Aldi has gone up too, but at least it’s not too crazy.
I find that Aldi prices are very similar to Walmart prices on some items in my area. They are right across the street from each other so I go to both.
Hey there, Jia. I know that so many items have increased so much much since the pandemic. I could get strawberries and blueberries, etc. so much cheaper. Just in the last year, the increase has increased insanely. It’s a shame. I would love to see more videos like this one. Thanks for sharing!
The pesto is the best deal in town. You only use like a tablespoon or so per person. That jar is enough for multiple dinners. It is fresh with real cheese but you can portion it out and freeze it.
I have a money tree I got it at Aldi for $6.99. It has grown so much in the past 2 years. Very easy to grow too.
I live in the Netherlands, in a village surrounded by farms. for example, for 10 farm fresh eggs we pay €2.99 ($3.25). For 1.5 liters of whole milk from the supermarket we pay €1.29 ($1.39)
By the way, I love watching your videos! thanks for sharing! ❤
Wow! How wonderful to have affordable access to fresh foods
I cannot call €3 for 10 eggs “affordable”…
I really like this video in comparisons of then and now prices. Thanks for sharing
I would love to see the price difference at Aldi from before the pandemic to the prices after. That would be very interesting
I just filmed it. It should be out next week
Hi Jia! Yes please do this for sams club and kroger. My husband and I are definitely trying to get lots of frozen items as the fresh is getting really high.
Canada Ontario at one point just months ago the 4 pack of bacon went up to I think $28 it’s down to $18 but back couple years ago it was $16 I’m thinking. I noticed the prices in the spice isle went up. I loved the box of chocolate chip cookies in white box I believe it was $8 now $12. Also the cases of pop or soda was around 8/9 dollars now it’s $15. Not big pop drinkers but we do enjoy one a couple times a week.
Great video. I just did a video yesterday looking at the Costco flyer. The sales start Jan. 31. I wrote down a few prices now, to see if they raise the prices when they have sales. I constantly talk about what prices were like back when. Like certain staple items, milk, eggs, bread etc. It’s terrible how high it is for groceries. Hugs ❤❤
Here in California I didn’t renew my Costco membership two years ago because I saw so drastically they increased prices. It depends on your state and your city area. I visited my sister and her family in Texas last year and their Costco and HEB Grocery prices were so damn cheap to me. (I’m from California and everything was so cheap there in comparison to me paying over 30-50% more for same items here in my city in California). I no longer see the value in Costco and shop elsewhere I shop at two different store for the deals.
I loved this video. And would love to see you go back to 2016. I too am wanting to put in a garden to cut cost. I live in central Illinois and do see price differences. I think in your last Aldi haul you got green onions for .85 cents and I paid .95 cents. I find myself using up what I already have and waiting for a good sale price. Love watching your videos.
Food is just high and that why I am careful about only buying what I need at any store. Like it’s cheaper to buy spinach or kale in bulk instead of those pre-bags. This was a good video and would love to see you do a price comparison on meats and seafood because I swear those fish sticks and salmon patties prices have gone up by 75%
It is insane, what the prices are! My usual Costco haul went up almost 40%. Our country still doesn’t value caretakers, and the emotional strain of that task. Then, to add on top of that the loss of income because now all my energy and effort is taken up by our special needs daughter… It’s a lot.
Hi Jia. This was so interesting. We all can feel the price increases all the way around. It’s really eye opening! Maybe you can do the same type of video for Sam’s Club. That would be interesting to see the same types of items vs Costco.
Hey Jia, great video and yes my Sam’s clubs prices has really increased. I use to could get like the beef tips and beef roast (2 in a pack for $22.99), now I priced a pack for $32. I was like no ma’am. I get paid every 7th and 22nd of every month from my job and I have to buy enough until my next pay day. I’ve noticed Walmart’s prices has increased. I’m like how do they expect people to eat especially the elderly.
Love the content Jia! Keep it coming!
It would be interesting if you bought the same/equivalent products (price per lb, oz, 100, etc) at a traditional, lower-priced supermarket and then compare not only the total cost at Costco vs supermarket.
FYI, back in the 1990’s my friend referred to Costco as “the 200 club” because you couldn’t get out the door for under $200!
