I wonder what would have been possible had she challenged both of us to understand that our own individual issues were at the heart of our problems as a couple, rather than reacting to the symptoms of those issues that she was presented with at that point. My ex wife saw no hope, the counselor agreed with her, and it was over.

    She had made her recommendation based on my wife’s perceived faults, but she never delved into what I could control: my own. Huge red flag for me.
